Delhi Drenched: Relief from Heatwave Amidst Thunderstorms

Delhi and NCR experienced relief from the heatwave as heavy rain and thunderstorms hit the region due to a western disturbance. The IMD issued a 'Red' alert for severe weather, affecting flights at Delhi Airport. Residents saw a temperature drop, but caution was advised during the storm.

A western disturbance brought heavy rain and thunderstorms to Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), offering relief from the intense heatwave that had gripped the area for days. The India Meteorological Department initially issued an 'orange' alert, later escalating it to a 'Red' warning due to the severity of the weather events.

The Met Department warned of intense thunderstorms, with strong winds reaching up to 80 kmph, affecting South Haryana, Delhi, and the NCR. As a result, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) advised passengers of possible flight disruptions and recommended alternative transport options like the Delhi Metro to manage potential delays.

The heavy rain not only disrupted flights but also led to a significant drop in temperatures, providing a much-needed respite from temperatures that hovered between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius. The IMD has urged residents to exercise caution as more rain is expected, predicting a massive dip in temperature by May 29.
