A severe thunderstorm swept across Bhubaneshwar on Saturday, bringing heavy downpours and high winds, providing respite from the city’s scorching heat. However, the storm also led to the disruption of daily activities in several areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for Odisha, forecasting isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Wind speeds in Bhubaneswar and its surrounds are reaching up to 50 km per hour, according to the IMD advisory.
Although traffic was momentarily hindered by the rain, many residents found solace in the plummeting temperatures and rain-soaked streets, which painted a picturesque scene across the city.
Previously, the IMD had predicted light to moderate rainfall in Eastern and Northeastern states, with isolated heavy showers expected in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Eastern regions including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are also forecasted to experience thunderstorms and lightning. The IMD has urged the public to remain inside during storms, avoid waterlogged areas, and take precautions against heatwaves.
As the monsoon season progresses across the nation, authorities and residents are being encouraged to follow IMD guidelines to reduce the risks associated with severe weather conditions.
