Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana declared on Saturday that Government Degree College, Kukumseri, will not be merged as part of the state's enrolment-based rationalisation initiative. This announcement followed discussions with Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The development comes after MLA Rana's fervent appeal to exempt the college from the rationalisation plan. She cited the unique geographical and demographic challenges faced by the tribal district. Rana had met with the Chief Minister, presenting a memorandum for the cancellation of the merger proposal.
The Chief Minister reportedly responded positively to these appeals, directing officials to take appropriate actions towards retaining the college's independent status. This move highlights the importance of maintaining educational opportunities in the remote Lahaul and Spiti district, particularly for underserved communities.
