In a significant leap towards sustainability, Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati inaugurated a 485 kWp rooftop solar power plant at Lok Bhavan on Saturday. This new development increases the campus's total solar capacity to 635 kW, positioning it as a leading example of sustainable public infrastructure.

The solar installations span multiple structures within the campus. The Abhishek Banquet Hall hosts the largest system with 191 kWp, followed by the Campus Garage at 85 kWp. Other noteworthy installations include the Administrative Building (64 kWp), Governor's House (54 kWp), Energy Park (47 kWp), Police ADC Residence (20 kWp), Naval ADC Residence (14 kWp), and the Wellness Centre (10 kWp). NBCC (India) Limited executed the project, with the Chairman-cum-Managing Director, KP Mahadevaswamy, present at the launch.

Addressing the audience, the Governor emphasized the urgency of transitioning to renewable energy sources amid global energy challenges and escalating fuel costs. He called for reduced reliance on imported crude oil and advocated for clean energy alternatives, aligning with the Prime Minister's appeals for citizens to embrace electric vehicles and minimize petrol and diesel use.

The Governor further underlined the need for green energy solutions like solar power to meet rising electricity demands. He praised government incentives such as PM Surya Ghar and Odisha's subsidies for making rooftop solar systems more affordable. Additionally, he mentioned initiatives like ethanol blending and the growing availability of flex-fuel vehicles as steps toward reducing fossil fuel dependency.

Over the past year, Lok Bhavan has amplified its commitment to sustainability with extensive solar energy utilization. The transition of the Governor's official vehicles to electric models highlights their dedication to clean mobility, underscoring ongoing efforts to enhance energy efficiency and cut carbon emissions.
