The Delhi Police Crime Branch has successfully apprehended one of the city's most wanted criminals, Amir alias Saleem alias Tillan, following a dramatic shootout at Shastri Park Metro Depot. Amir, known for his close ties with jailed gangster Hasim Baba, was a primary suspect in a brutal double homicide that shocked Shahdara's Farsh Bazar last year.
The police revealed that the homicide occurred on Diwali night, October 31, 2024, when assailants gunned down a man and his nephew outside their Farsh Bazar residence. The attack, captured on CCTV, stirred social media outrage. Thanks to a confidential tip-off, a specialized Crime Branch unit, led by Inspectors Man Singh and Sunder Gautam, managed to trap Amir on June 8.
Upon confrontation at 10:48 PM, Amir brandished a pistol, engaging in a firefight with the police. In self-defense, HC Manoj aimed and successfully incapacitated Amir by shooting him in the legs. The 34-year-old, hailing from Maujpur, has a lengthy criminal record involving 14 cases of murder, attempted murder, robbery, and arms violations in Delhi.
Officers recovered a 32 bore pistol, live cartridges, and empty shells from the scene. A new case has been lodged at the Crime Branch Police Station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
Investigations are ongoing to uncover more of Amir's gang-related activities. This comes after the recent murder of another gangster affiliate, Waseem, near DDA Park in Shastri Park, reminding the public of earlier violence at GTB Hospital where an innocent bystander was killed. The police swiftly solved Waseem's case, detaining two siblings and recovering the murder weapon.
