In a dramatic turn of events, Jhansi police apprehended a man accused of child abduction following an encounter in the Nawabad area. The suspect, identified as Sanjay Mishra alias Bhagat, was found in possession of a country-made pistol, empty cartridges, and a mobile phone, confirmed SP City Preeti Singh on Monday.
On June 7, officials received an alert about a possible child abduction involving an auto-rickshaw. Prompt action led the Nawabad police to trace the vehicle and contact the child's family, revealing that the suspect was an acquaintance who misled the family into letting their daughter go with him under false pretenses.
Despite initial claims of taking the child to purchase medicine, the suspect failed to return the child, causing the family to grow suspicious. The child later disclosed that 'Bhagat uncle' took her to another location and wronged her, prompting police to register a case. Legal proceedings against Mishra are now underway.
