Transportation across the Dhanauti River in Majhaulia, Bettiah, Bihar, came to a standstill following the collapse of a crucial bridge. The incident has left locals stranded as authorities from the Bettiah Division's Rural Works Department erected barricades to prevent further mishaps.
The 35 to 40-year-old bridge, serving as a key link between Bakharia and Karamwa in the Lal Saraiya Panchayat, connects numerous panchayats. Akash Kumar, Technical Supervisor of the Rural Works Department, confirmed the bridge's age while addressing its abrupt closure. Residents have expressed their frustrations, recounting a month of structural issues and a near-accident involving a motorbike and a pedestrian.
This incident mirrors the collapse of a slab on the Vikramshila Setu bridge in May, which similarly disrupted traffic and necessitated temporary measures. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary mentioned ongoing inspections and ensured that transportation alternatives would be provided until the bridge repairs were finalized by November 30.
