Residents of Delhi are experiencing a much-anticipated respite from the intense heat, as meteorological shifts have led to more pleasant weather conditions on Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted partly cloudy skies that are expected to become generally cloudy in the afternoon.
The weather department predicts light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and possibly a dust storm. Winds could be strong, reaching speeds between 50-60 kmph, with gusts up to 70 kmph by evening or night. Temperature readings in Delhi are expected to be in the range of 40°C to 42°C for maximum and 27°C to 29°C for minimum, while remaining close to normal at most places, as per the IMD.
The IMD has noted predominant surface winds coming from the southwest, potentially increasing up to 25 kmph during the afternoon before slowing to around 22 kmph and shifting easterly by evening. Additionally, the national capital may experience isolated hailstorm activity during June 11-12, along with regions in North India such as Haryana and Chandigarh.
According to the IMD weather bulletin, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, and West Uttar Pradesh are also poised to encounter isolated hailstorms on June 11 and 12. This wet spell over Northwest India is attributed to a Western Disturbance, with possible thunderstorms and gusty winds.
