President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Uttarakhand on Friday, marking the start of a two-day official visit. She landed at Jolly Grant Airport and was welcomed by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Following her arrival, tight security facilitated her departure to the city, where she is scheduled to attend the Passing Out Parade at the Indian Military Academy on Saturday.

Earlier in the week, on Monday, President Murmu presided over the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2026, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this event, she conferred 51 gallantry awards recognizing exceptional acts of bravery. The decorated personnel hailed from the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and State and Union Territory Police. Among the awards were seven Kirti Chakras, 15 Vir Chakras, and 29 Shaurya Chakras, with several awarded posthumously for valorous acts performed in challenging circumstances.

The list of awardees includes noteworthy recipients; Lance Naik Meenatchi Sundaram A, Major Arshdeep Singh, and Naib Subedar Doleshwar Subba were among those honored with Kirti Chakras. Vir Chakra recipients included Army officers such as Colonel Koshank Lamba and distinguished pilots from the Indian Air Force. The ceremony also honored posthumous gallantry, recognizing the sacrifices of personnel like Sepoy Janjal Pravin Prabhakar and Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari with Kirti Chakras and others with Vir and Shaurya Chakras.
