Supreme Court Bar Association Denounces Threats Against Former Judge

In a firm denunciation, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has expressed grave concern over the threats, intimidation, and violence allegedly targeting former Bombay High Court judge Justice Gautam Patel and his family. These acts, reportedly linked to a judicial decision by Justice Patel, have been described as 'deeply disturbing' and an affront to the rule of law, according to a resolution passed by the SCBA on June 10, 2026.

The SCBA underscored that any attempts to intimidate or coerce judges or their families are attacks on judicial independence and constitutional values. They emphasized that while legal remedies exist for contesting judicial decisions, resolving disagreements through threats or violence undermines the judiciary's dignity and authority.

Expressing solidarity with Justice Patel, the SCBA called on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure his family's safety. Urging global attention to justice protection, the resolution highlighted that a failure to defend judges erodes public trust in justice.
