During a swearing-in ceremony in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu called on newly elected Panchayat leaders to become champions of rural development and spearhead efforts against drug abuse, particularly the heroin menace. The event, held at Hotel Peterhoff, saw Education Minister Rohit Thakur administer the oath to 441 Panchayat Pradhans and Up-Pradhans.

Chief Minister Sukhu lauded the newly elected representatives, expressing optimism that their leadership would usher in a golden era for Panchayats. He reiterated the pivotal role Panchayat leaders play in fostering grassroots development, noting that 90% of the state's population resides in rural areas. The Chief Minister urged them to prioritize public welfare and tackle critical local issues.

In light of recent unfortunate events, including the killing of a school operator in Shimla, Sukhu assured the media of a thorough investigation. Newly elected representatives, like Himi Devi and Nena Chauhan, affirmed their commitment to local development priorities and the state's anti-drug campaign, pledging to foster inclusive growth and social reform across communities.
