On Tuesday, Karnataka Lokayukta officials executed widespread search operations across several districts, targeting government officials suspected of holding assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. The coordinated raids spanned twelve locations, spearheaded by Davangere Lokayukta SP MS Kaulapure, focusing on figures such as Panchayat Raj Engineering Department's Superintending Engineer, Manik Kankatte.
Under the guidance of Lokayukta SP Siddharaju, authorities extended the crackdown to multiple locales, enforcing raids in Kalaburagi, Davanagere, Chitradurga, and Belagavi. In Davanagere and Hubli, searches of Siddeshwar Hebbal's premises led to the discovery of Rs 40 lakh in cash, spotlighting significant illicit financial activity.
In an interconnected development, law enforcement agencies arrested a gang involved in 'Digital Arrest' fraud, which tricked victims into revealing financial information. The operation led to the recovery of a portion of the defrauded amount and uncovered their methods of exploiting social media to connect with victims securely. Ongoing investigations aim to dismantle the network entirely and trace additional co-conspirators.
