On Tuesday, Chennai International Airport was the site of a significant anti-hijacking mock exercise designed to test and improve emergency response capabilities among security and civil aviation agencies. Spearheaded by J Anne Mary Swarna, Joint Home Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, and attended by senior officials like DIG/CASO R Ponni, this drill was a major operation.

The exercise simulated an intricate aircraft takeover scenario, using a passenger bus to mimic on-ground complexities. A robust team of 339 personnel from agencies such as the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Airports Authority of India (AAI), and local police participated, alongside Airport Fire Services, Air Traffic Control, and various commercial airlines.

Highlighting national security coordination, the Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, and state administration played crucial roles. This operation underscored the tactical preparedness and seamless inter-agency collaboration required to counter hijacking threats and address evolving global aviation security challenges.
