Russian President Vladimir Putin has formally suspended the 1987 INF treaty by signing a law on Wednesday, according to official sources. The United States is also set to pull out of the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) on August 2 citing Russia's development of a missile that breaks the accord. Russia has, however, repeatedly denied violating the INF treaty.

Washington, which accused Russia of violating the treaty through a new missile system, began the official process of withdrawing from the pact in February.
