Direct talks between the government of Afghanistan and the Taliban are supposed to begin in two weeks, according to local media reports. The delegation from the side of the Afghan government will have 15 members and the consultations have begun for its formation.
It has been reported that the delegation members will be from those who had participated in the Doha intra-Afghan summit, and professionals. The intra-Afghan summit that occured on July 7 and July 8 was attended by representatives of warring Afghan parties, members of civil society, including women and the delegates of the Taliban. But everyone participated in their personal capacities and not as the representative of the government since the Taliban does not recognize the current government of Afghanistan.
The Taliban group has not made any comments on this announcement yet.
