UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres has urged member states to pay their mandatory contributions on stipulated time to get UN out of its tax crunch.

Earlier, Guterres warned that UN was at risk of running out of cash.

In a letter to member states, Guterres mentioned that the crisis is caused due to delayed contributions of member states and the new cash crunch has no precedence.

At least 112 member states paid their budget dues to the UN by July 26th.

Amount of money paid by member states accounted for USD 1.49 billion in 2018 while it stood at USD 1.70 billion in the previous year.

More than 80 member states are still due to pay their share of budget dues. The countries involve Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Israel, Syria, US, Zimbabwe etc.

The United States is the biggest contributor pays around 22 percent which translates to USD 5.4 billion and approx. 29 percent of USD 7.9 billion of the peacekeeping budget.
