West Bengal on Saturday reported the highest single-day recovery of 4,049 COVID-19 patients, taking the total number of cured people to 3,29,937, the health department said in a bulletin. The death toll mounted to 6,841 after 57 more people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.

The bulletin said that 3,993 fresh coronavirus cases were reported from different parts of the state, pushing the tally to 3,73,664, the bulletin said. The number of active cases currently is 36,886.

The bulletin said that North 24 Parganas district recorded the highest number of recoveries at 907, followed by Kolkata at 895. The discharge rate was recorded at 88.30 per cent. Of the fresh fatalities, the metropolis and North 24 Parganas district registered 16 deaths each. The remaining casualties were reported from several other districts.

The 3,993 new coronavirus cases included 931 from Kolkata and 926 from North 24 Parganas district. Altogether 44,155 samples were tested for COVID-19 in West Bengal since Friday, taking the total number of such tests to 45,56,425.
