Lebanon's Hezbollah backs Christian politician Frangieh for presidency

Lebanon's powerful armed Hezbollah group will back Christian politician Suleiman Frangieh to be the country's head of state, the group's leader Hassan Nasrallah said during a teleivised address on Monday.

The decision gives Frangieh important backing but does immediately not secure him enough votes in the country's legislature to be elected as president.

The country has been without a president since Michel Aoun's six-year term ended at the end of October.
