The ongoing strike by Zimbabwean doctors is likely to collapse the nation’s health sector. The doctors at public hospitals said on December 9 that they would continue with their industrial action and implored the government to be more serious with health care and move with speed to avert collapse of the health system.

According to the officials of Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA), while it recognised efforts by Health minister Obadiah Moyo in trying to engage, the response by government has been sluggish and the strike action crossing ten days still continues.

“As it stands, doctors remain on industrial action and the situation in our hospitals has grown increasingly dire as we approach the festive season,” ZHDA said in a statement, Bulawayo 24 reported.

The association further said in the statement that the industrial action will be continued and many more seniors would be joining. In this way, the employers are trying to address the nation’s health care system with the respect it deserves.
