JIPMER Battles Crisis: 16 Critically Ill After Consuming Illicit Liquor

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) is providing intensive care to 16 patients from Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, who became critically ill after consuming illicit liquor. Despite best efforts, three patients were dead upon arrival. The hospital's interdisciplinary teams are closely monitoring and treating the affected individuals.

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) is grappling with a medical emergency, receiving 19 patients from Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, who fell ill after ingesting illicit liquor.

JIPMER's Director, Dr. Rakesh Aggarwal, confirmed that three patients arrived deceased on Wednesday, while the remaining 16 were critically ill. Of these, ten required immediate ventilatory support and were swiftly admitted to the intensive care units.

The hospital has deployed inter-disciplinary teams to provide the best possible care, closely monitoring each patient’s condition.
