30 Girl Students Hospitalized Due to Suspected Food Poisoning in West Tripura Hostel

At least 30 girl students fell ill after having a meal at an NGO-run hostel in West Tripura, prompting an official inquiry into the suspected food poisoning. The students were admitted to GBP Hospital and are currently stable. Chief Minister Manik Saha has ordered necessary steps pending investigation results.

At least 30 girl students were hospitalized following a suspected case of food poisoning after consuming a meal at a hostel managed by an NGO in West Tripura district, said an official on Thursday.

The state government has initiated an inquiry into the incident involving students from Bodhjung Higher Secondary School and Maharani Tulsibati School. According to West Tripura District Magistrate Vishal Kumar, the students had consumed the meal before attending their respective institutions.

“Two girls initially complained of stomach pain, followed by several others experiencing similar symptoms. Subsequently, the affected students were taken to GBP Hospital,” Kumar informed reporters. Samples of the hostel food have been collected for examination. “Appropriate action will be taken if any adverse findings are detected in the food provided to the girl students,” he added, noting that the students' condition is stable.

Chief Minister Manik Saha, who visited the hospitalized students, suggested that the incident appeared to be related to food poisoning. “The students are stable, and the government has ordered an inquiry for necessary actions,” the Chief Minister stated.
