The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday granted permission for a 17-year-old girl to donate a portion of her liver to her ailing father, thereby allowing a critical transplant surgery to proceed.
Shivnarayan Batham, a 42-year-old farmer, petitioned the court, indicating that his daughter Preeti was ready to make the life-saving donation. The court's decision was influenced by a health assessment conducted by a state medical board, which confirmed that Preeti was fit for the procedure.
In light of the medical board's favorable report, the court directed that the liver transplant be expedited with all necessary precautions. Batham, who has been battling a severe liver condition for six years, is currently hospitalized in a private facility. His lawyer, Nilesh Manore, disclosed that Batham's eldest daughter, Preeti, who will turn 18 on July 31, volunteered for this noble act. With her father's health deteriorating, and other family members unable to donate due to age or health issues, Preeti stepped up to save her father's life.
