Cholera Outbreak in Rajkot: Authorities Take Action

Cholera was declared in parts of Rajkot, Gujarat after two cases were detected. Authorities issued a notification under the Epidemic Diseases Act, banning ice-made food. Contaminated water from outside is suspected. 25 teams are monitoring the situation, along with hospitals in Kalol for suspected cases.

Parts of Rajkot in Gujarat have been declared cholera-affected after two cases were confirmed, an official announced on Thursday. The declaration was made under the Epidemic Diseases Act by Collector Prabhav Joshi.

This notification, effective for two months, impacts areas like Lohanagar and Gondal road, banning food items made from ice until September 4.

Preliminary investigations suggest the outbreak may have started from contaminated water brought into the area. Medical Officer Jayesh Vakani noted that residents dealing in fish could be the source, as contaminated water for fish storage might have led to the cases.

With 25 teams deployed for surveys, around 1,500 residents are under scrutiny. Both government and private hospitals in Kalol have been alerted to watch for suspected cases.
