The district administration of East Singhbhum in Jharkhand has initiated a massive anti-dengue campaign to curb the spread of the virus, a senior official revealed on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal reported that the anti-dengue teams have surveyed 2.5 lakh households and tested 60,000 water samples containing larvae.
The campaign seeks to educate the public about dengue prevention, with penalties of Rs 500 for households found harboring larvae. Despite eight cases reported in Jamshedpur, the situation is much improved compared to last year's epidemic.
'This year, we are taking no chances and have implemented comprehensive measures,' Mittal stated. Launched in early July, the campaign involves schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centers, advising the public to use anti-larval chemicals and bleaching powder.
Pamphlets are being distributed, and a helpline has been set up for information and reporting breeding sites. Hospitals have reserved two beds each for dengue patients. Officials have inspected various potential breeding containers and treated 360 instances of detected larvae.
