No cases of the Chandipura virus have been reported in Madhya Pradesh, state Health Minister Rajendra Shukla announced on Sunday. This follows a review of the viral infection and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) cases in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh by the Union Health Ministry and experts.
Shukla confirmed that the health department is well-equipped to identify the virus, one of the causes of AES. He emphasized that the department is constantly monitoring the situation and that no cases have been found in the state.
The Health Minister added that the state government will adhere to the Centre's guidelines as necessary. Acute Encephalitis Syndrome is caused by various viruses, bacteria, and other agents, with known viral causes including JE, Dengue, and CHPV. The Chandipura Virus, particularly prevalent during the monsoon season, is transmitted by sand flies and ticks, with vector control and hygiene being the primary prevention measures.
