A suspected diarrhoea outbreak has claimed two lives and sickened 28 others in Odisha's Ganjam district, officials confirmed on Friday.

A medical team from Berhampur was dispatched to Adapada village in Sanakhemundi block on Thursday to provide treatment. Of the affected, 20 are receiving care at the local community health center, and one critically ill patient has been referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.

The deceased, identified as Kenchu Nayak and Kanchan Nayak, were above 70 years old and had other health conditions. Officials suspect that consumption of well water, exacerbated by recent rainfall, caused the outbreak. Water samples have been collected for laboratory testing.
