Self-Taught Acupuncturist Sentenced After Patient's Death

A Chinese court sentenced an unlicensed, self-taught acupuncturist to 18 months in prison after a fatal treatment incident, media reported on Monday.

Wang, from Baoying County in Jiangsu province, learned acupuncture through videos and treated villagers, including a patient named Li with coronary heart disease, who subsequently died.

Prosecutors revealed Li's acute heart failure was exacerbated by Wang's untrained acupuncture. Wang was also fined and given a two-year probation for illegal medical practice at an unauthorized home clinic.
