Andhra Pradesh Introduces 'Jeevandan' Scheme to Honor Organ Donors
The Andhra Pradesh government announced a new initiative named 'Jeevandan' aimed at encouraging organ donations. The scheme includes honoring deceased organ donors and providing financial support for their funerals. The program was recommended by the Cadaver Transplantation Advisory Committee to help patients in need of organ transplants.

The Andhra Pradesh government introduced the 'Jeevandan' scheme on Thursday, aimed at promoting organ donation within the state. The initiative will recognize and honor the contributions of deceased organ donors.
Special Chief Secretary for Health, Medical, and Family Welfare, MT Krishna Babu, issued directives for district collectors or their deputies to lay a wreath or garland on the deceased donor's mortal remains as a mark of respect.
The scheme also includes the presentation of a shawl, certificate with a frame, and flowers to the donor's family members. Additionally, the government will disburse Rs 10,000 to the donor's kin for funeral expenses, including free transportation of the body from the hospital to the residence or crematorium.
