A doctor at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack has been arrested for allegedly raping two women patients, police said on Tuesday.

The alleged incidents took place on Sunday in the cardiology department during echocardiogram tests.

Cuttack DCP Prakash R confirmed the arrest based on complaints from the two women. A case has been registered, said ADCP Anil Mishra. The Health and Family Welfare Department has set up a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the allegations.

A police officer mentioned that the doctor had allegedly rescheduled the tests to Sunday instead of Friday. Relatives of the patients reportedly beat the doctor, though no formal complaint has been lodged on that count, Mishra disclosed.
