A group of at least 20 doctors from various state-run medical establishments in Kolkata approached West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Thursday, seeking his intervention after unidentified miscreants vandalised a portion of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, according to an official statement.

These doctors, predominantly women, expressed their growing sense of insecurity to Bose. The vandalism occurred amid midnight protests by women across the state, incited by the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital last week.

"The governor assured the doctors of all possible assistance and promised to escalate the matter to the highest level to curb the ongoing hooliganism in West Bengal," stated the official.

In a show of support, Bose has opened 'Abhaya Home,' offering a safe stay for doctors until they feel confident to move freely. Additionally, the governor's office launched an 'Abhaya Portal,' providing a helpline for distressed doctors and citizens.
