The indefinite strike by resident doctors in Maharashtra has entered its fourth day, causing significant disruption to medical services at government and civic hospitals across the state. Senior resident doctors have now joined the protest, further intensifying the crisis and impacting thousands of patients.
According to Dr. Pratik Debaje, president of Maharashtra State Association of Residential Doctors (Central-MARD), around 17,000-18,000 doctors are currently on strike. They are expressing solidarity with the nationwide agitation following the rape-murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.
The strike has led to the suspension of elective services including OPDs, OTs, and lab procedures, although emergency services remain operational. Central-MARD's demands include a transparent investigation into the Kolkata incident, improved security measures, and better living conditions for resident doctors.
