Assam Police's BMI Test Enters Second Year: Significant Results Expected

Assam's Director General of Police, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, announced the second year of BMI tests for the state's police personnel. The aim is to reduce the number of officers classified as obese. With improved procedures, significant reductions in obesity rates are anticipated this year. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma supports this initiative to enhance the force's efficiency.

The Assam Police has commenced its second annual Body Mass Index (BMI) testing, aiming to improve the fitness of its personnel. Assam DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh revealed that the process expects fewer obese personnel compared to last year.

Sharing insights on social media, Singh highlighted that last year, 1.6 percent of officers tested fell into the obese category, a figure predicted to drop in 2024. Streamlined procedures are set to accelerate the assessment process, primarily focused on weight measurement this year.

The initiative, spearheaded by the DGP himself since August 16, 2022, is part of a broader strategy to ensure a professionally fit police force. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has backed the program, advocating for the removal of officers with severe obesity or other issues impacting their performance.
