Members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in Karnataka will go on strike on Saturday to protest the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. In response, the Karnataka government has suspended the leaves of medical officers to maintain emergency services.
A circular from the Health and Family Welfare Department instructed district health and family welfare officers, as well as district surgeons, to ensure that emergency services are not disrupted, thereby minimizing inconvenience to the public.
Dr. Srinivasa S, president of the IMA Karnataka unit, said all branches across the state will be closed, and no outpatient department (OPD) services will be available. He added that a protest march will be held in various parts of Karnataka, with the main event happening at the IMA office in Bengaluru's Chamarajpet, where over 1,000 doctors are expected to participate.
