Silent March by BMC-Run Sion Hospital Doctors

Resident doctors of BMC-run Sion Hospital held a silent march to protest attacks on medical professionals, following an assault on a woman doctor and nationwide protests against the rape-murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Three people have been booked in connection with the assault.

Resident doctors from BMC-run Sion Hospital staged a silent march on Monday to protest recent attacks on medical professionals.

Early Sunday, a woman doctor was assaulted at the hospital by intoxicated relatives of a patient. This incident comes in the wake of nationwide protests sparked by the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor on August 9 at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

“Today's silent march aimed to protest both incidents in Kolkata and here. A large number of people participated, demanding safety for doctors at their workplaces,” Dr. Sudeep Dhakane from Sion hospital told PTI.

Three individuals, including two women, have been booked in connection with the assault at Sion Hospital, officially known as Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College. They face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act provisions.
