An ICMR-led study has revealed that unemployed adults in India face a significantly higher risk of developing heart disease over a 10-year period.

The research, which examined nearly 4,500 adults aged 40 to 69, also highlighted elevated risks among individuals with high blood sugar levels and those residing in urban areas.

The authors noted that 85 per cent of the study group was at very low-to-low risk, while 14.5 per cent were at moderate risk, and one per cent were at high-to-very high risk of cardiovascular diseases.
