More than 4,000 children under five have died due to various illnesses like sepsis, pneumonia, and septic shock at the Delhi government-run Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya from 2019 till June this year, data obtained through an RTI reveals.

The data shows the highest number of these deaths were recorded in 2019 with 875 fatalities, while the lowest number was noted at 548 last year. In the first half of this year, 314 deaths were reported.

The hospital cited sepsis, pneumonia, septic shock, and septicemia as the main causes. The data, provided to RTI activist Amit Gupta, highlights the dire need for improved pediatric care in Delhi despite its reputed healthcare infrastructure.
