The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted emergency use authorization for an updated version of Novavax's COVID-19 vaccine, targeting the JN.1 strain of the virus.

The updated vaccine has been authorized for use in individuals 12 years and older, adding another option for COVID-19 immunization. "Today’s authorization provides an additional COVID-19 vaccine option," said Peter Marks, director of the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research.

Earlier this month, the FDA approved updated COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, designed to target the KP.2 variant that was prevalent earlier this year.
