A junior doctor was allegedly struck several times with a metal tool by a patient's relative at Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College, officials reported on Tuesday.
In response to the incident, doctors launched a strike and suspended emergency services while staging a sit-in at the department's gate, demanding the assailant's arrest.
Principal Dr. RC Gupta stated that on Monday night, a group brought in a critically ill woman. Emergency doctors examined her but declared her dead, leading to accusations of negligence by her attendants. Amid the chaos, junior doctor Manish was attacked with a spanner used for opening oxygen cylinders.
Dr. Gupta confirmed that a case has been filed against unidentified individuals. He mentioned that the striking doctors, led by Junior and Residents Association president Dr. Sakshi, are not willing to resume duties until the culprits are apprehended. They are also calling for continuous police presence for better security measures.
Medical Police Station SHO Shailesh Kumar informed that a case has been registered against two suspects and efforts are ongoing to arrest them.
