In a significant public health initiative, district health teams across Arunachal Pradesh marked Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders Prevention Day. This observance was part of the National Iodine Deficiency Disorders Control Programme (NIDDCP), targeting awareness among the public about the vital role of iodine in nutrition.

State programme officer D Taipodia stressed the preventable nature of iodine deficiency, a major cause of cognitive and developmental delays in children. Highlighting iodine as essential for thyroid function and brain development, particularly for children and pregnant women, the efforts aim to encourage iodine-rich dietary choices.

Under the leadership of Health Minister Biyuram Waghe, the state government supports these health initiatives to advance nutritional interventions. Activities included free health camps and educational programs, aimed at ensuring households understand the significance of iodised salt and iodine-rich foods.
