Junior doctors, previously engaged in a prolonged hunger strike concerning the RG Kar incident, have decided to suspend their protest. This development followed a meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday evening.
The medical professionals had initially planned a statewide hospital strike on Tuesday. However, after receiving some assurances during the meeting, albeit noting an unyielding tone from the government, they chose to call off their actions. 'The general public and the family of our colleague who passed away have expressed deep concern for our health,' stated Debashish Halder, one of the junior doctors, while announcing their decision.
During a general body meeting, the doctors resolved to halt their 'fast-unto-death' protest, acknowledging the widespread support they received from the community and highlighting the necessity to prioritize their health.
