The founder of Co-Creation Hub (Cc-HUB), Bosun Tijani had been in Rwanda for multiple occasions and minutely witnessed the country's impressive growth in the last few years. Through this observation, he had already contemplated and also declared earlier that his company would go for creating a new design lab in Rwanda.
Nigeria's Yaba-located Co-Creation Hub (Cc-HUB) earlier in announced in Rwanda's capital city Kigali that the city itself would be the location for its design lab. Earlier Tijani also said that since the upcoming lab in Kigali is the first of its kind, it is likely to be hub's internal Research and Development (R&D) unit. This workroom will be home to designers, engineers and product developers. They will all work together with top scientists globally to solve major social challenges.
A new report from The New Times claims that Cc-HUB will have the official launch of the lab in February this year. He is trying to advance the idea of social capital to achieve economic prosperity. "The Design Lab functions in line with Co-creation Hub's overall vision to innovate for a better society and accelerate the application of social capital, technology and design for economic prosperity in Africa," Bosun Tijani added.
The lab is going to be the hub's research and development unit where a multi-disciplinary team of product designers and engineers will collaborate with scientists and stakeholders globally to co-create breakthrough solutions to major social challenges. He told that they are working to solve systemic problems in health, education, governance and the private sector in Africa.
"In education, our focus would be on improving learning outcomes and student participation in STEM, with attention being paid to teaching methods and use of creative content - for example, digital laboratories - to drive uptake," he further said.
They are already working in Nigeria and their lab has built NimCure, an end-to-end Tuberculosis management system. As far as investment is concerned, he revealed to pump out a fund of around USD 11 million in Rwanda in the next five years.
