In a remarkable initiative at the Maha Kumbh, Mumbai-based eye surgeon Dr. Nishant Kumar is offering free eye check-ups to devotees. By setting up a camp at Arail Ghat, Kumar uses an innovative technique involving 'naga sadhus' to detect vision impairments.

Dr. Kumar and his team have written letters on the backs of 'naga sadhus', helping them identify vision issues in over 18,000 people so far. Spectacles have been distributed to 15,000 individuals, while those with cataracts receive detailed reports for hospital follow-ups.

This novel approach, aided by the cooperation of 50 'naga sadhus', reflects Kumar's dedication to eye health, as he annually examines thousands during Mumbai's Ganesh festival. The camp at Maha Kumbh runs until February 25.
