Tragic Outcome of Extreme Dieting: Kerala Teen's Fatal Struggle with Anorexia

An 18-year-old girl from Kerala, Sreenanda, died after following an extreme diet influenced by online sources. Suffering from anorexia nervosa, her condition was exacerbated by unrecognized mental health issues. Despite being hospitalized when her health significantly deteriorated, timely psychiatric intervention was not sought, leading to her tragic death.

In a heartbreaking incident from Kerala, an 18-year-old girl, identified as Sreenanda, succumbed to complications arising from an extreme weight-loss regime, reportedly influenced by body-shaming and unverified online advice.

Sreenanda, hailing from Koothuparamba in Kannur, was undergoing treatment at Thalassery Co-operative Hospital for severe malnutrition, dehydration, and dangerously low vital parameters, believed to be the consequences of anorexia nervosa.

Doctors noted the lack of early psychiatric intervention and reliance on YouTube for dieting tips as contributory factors to her deteriorating health, ultimately leading to her untimely demise last Saturday.
