Mamata Banerjee Highlights Inclusivity in West Bengal's Healthcare Revolution

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee emphasized the inclusivity of the Swasthya Sathi health scheme while criticizing the Centre's Ayushman Bharat for discrimination. Highlighting substantial investments in healthcare infrastructure and social transformation, she also addressed state revenue loss and discussed advancing medical facilities, including a new 10-storey hospital block.

West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee staunchly defended the state's Swasthya Sathi health scheme on Tuesday, branding it inclusive and accusing the Centre's Ayushman Bharat of discriminating based on asset ownership, like scooters or smartphones.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new 10-storey block at SSKM Hospital, Banerjee highlighted that the Swasthya Sathi scheme has benefitted over 8.72 crore people, stressing that it does not discriminate against individuals with basic assets. The state has expended Rs 12,000 crore on this initiative.

Banerjee, who controls the health portfolio, showcased significant advancements including the state's first robotic surgery system and eastern India's first bone bank, while condemning the halted GST compensations. She cited revenue losses, resiliency in flood management, and a remarkable rise in institutional deliveries, underscoring the government's commitment to transforming public health.
