In Imphal, medical professionals at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) staged a protest on Monday. Their demonstration was in response to an assault on a senior consultant amid agitations regarding the death of a female patient.
The Teachers' and Medical Officers' Association (TAMOA) took decisive action by suspending all services in the largest hospital of Manipur. Emergency and routine operations were halted, with protesters demanding both the arrest of those responsible and assurance for a safer working environment.
The unrest erupted after Chingshubam Ongbi Manju's death on Sunday due to complications following surgery. The incident saw outrage from locals, leading to vandalism and assault. The local BJP unit has expressed concerns, citing alleged procedural lapses, and has called for an investigation by the Union Health Ministry.
