Nagaland University researchers have discovered that a naturally occurring plant compound, Sinapic acid, can significantly speed up wound healing in diabetic patients. Officials have heralded this finding as a crucial step forward in safe and natural treatment options for diabetic wound management.
According to Panav Kumar Prabhakar, the Head of the Department of Biotechnology at Nagaland University, their research is the first globally to demonstrate that oral administration of Sinapic acid accelerates healing in preclinical diabetic models. The compound activates the SIRT1 pathway, essential in repairing tissue and controlling inflammation.
Published in Nature Scientific Reports, these findings have been praised by University Vice Chancellor Jagadish K Patnaik, who emphasized the study's importance in tackling critical health challenges. As diabetes mellitus remains a significant chronic disease worldwide, this natural solution offers a promising alternative to existing synthetic drugs that often have limited efficacy and undesirable side effects.
