SIMS Hospitals has achieved a medical breakthrough by successfully removing a rare tumour from a patient's left ventricle using an endoscopic minimally invasive keyhole procedure.
The surgery involved a 45-year-old woman with a seldom-seen tumour in the heart's main pumping chamber, a condition found in just one out of 20-30 million people. Conventional treatment would typically involve an open-heart procedure, but the hospital opted for the less invasive approach.
This landmark procedure was led by cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. A Mohammed Ibrahim, guided by Dr. V V Bashi of the Institute of Cardiac and Advanced Aortic Diseases. Dr. Bashi emphasized that this minimally invasive technique is a significant achievement for cardiac surgery in India. The patient is reportedly recovering without complications two weeks post-surgery.
