In a bid to galvanize the youth of Punjab, Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh addressed the growing threat of tobacco, urging young people to lead a fight against it. Singh identified the youth as the critical force in crafting a healthier future for the state.
During a youth conclave on creating a tobacco-free generation through innovative initiatives, Singh encouraged students and young leaders to set examples by spreading tobacco control efforts beyond schools into communities and online mediums. He pointed out that tobacco not only harms the body but the mind, often leading to more severe addictions and crime.
Highlighting Punjab's tobacco control achievements, Singh credited strict enforcement of relevant laws, early actions against e-cigarettes, and the establishment of cessation support in every district for the state's low tobacco prevalence. He released a study emphasizing youth's role, concluding with a call for a united front in building a tobacco-free Punjab, asserting that today's resolve is tomorrow's legacy.
