The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully executed a daring nighttime medical evacuation from Agatti Island in the Lakshadweep archipelago, saving the life of a 55-year-old man experiencing a critical cardiac emergency.
The operation unfolded late on Monday after the Lakshadweep Administration issued an urgent SOS to the ICG, triggering a swift response from the Coast Guard's Kochi base. A Dornier aircraft was rapidly prepared and reconfigured to serve as a flying ambulance, complete with a Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU), to ensure the patient's stability during the flight over the Arabian Sea.
The mission marks the ICG's second medical evacuation in the month and illustrates the organization's exceptional operational readiness. Once the aircraft safely transported the patient to Kochi, he was quickly admitted to a private hospital for further treatment. This complex operation underscores the dedication and efficiency of the ICG in handling life-threatening emergencies.
