Dr Reddy's Takes on Wegovy: Affordable Option in the Pipeline
Dr Reddy's Laboratories plans to introduce a low-cost generic version of the popular weight loss drug Wegovy, pending approval. Priced at roughly 60% less than the branded option, this move follows their recent approval to produce and sell a generic diabetes medication, Ozempic, in India.
In an ambitious move, Indian pharmaceutical company Dr Reddy's Laboratories is preparing to roll out a generic variant of the acclaimed weight loss medication Wegovy. Pending regulatory approval, this version will retail at about 60% less than the original, according to Co-chairman and Managing Director GV Prasad.
Dr Reddy's received clearance from India's drug authority last month to begin manufacturing and selling a generic alternative to the widely used diabetes drug Ozempic. Now, the company is gearing up to secure additional approvals for launching its affordable Wegovy version.
This strategic initiative by Dr Reddy's signifies a significant step in making high-demand medications more accessible and affordable for a wider demographic in India, marking a pivotal moment in the competitive pharmaceutical landscape.
